Fun, they say, comes to the University of Chicago to die. If before making that last journey fun wanted a final treat, it might sit itself down by the fireplace at Hallowed Grounds, nursing a latte, nibbling on hummus and pita, and waiting its turn at one of the billiard tables. Stay here a few hours at a generous wooden table under the vaulted ceiling surrounded by dark wood paneling and you'll feel like you've been lunching with Western civilization. One of five student-run coffeehouses on campus, the Grounds is housed on the second floor of the Reynolds Club, one of the U. of C.'s many fake-but-authentic-enough-looking-at-least-for-the-midwest Gothic buildings. —S.L.
