"Taste the Forbidden" reads the sign on the freshly painted olive green building at 3101 N. Clybourn, where 90 Miles Cuban Cafe will "hopefully" open by the end of the month, according to owner Christine Gonzalez, a restaurant rookie along with her husband, Alberto. Gonzalez says they'll be pressing the usual Cuban sandwiches--ropa vieja, lechon, medianoche--plus chicken, tofu, and veggie versions. There will also be dinner plates of the same with plantains and rice and beans. Add to that pastries, shakes, and of course Cuban coffee. And breakfast.

90 Miles joins an increasingly crowded field of relatively new Cuban joints. The name refers to the distance between the island and Florida.
