Thursday at 5:30 PM, DIY activist Faythe Levine (left) screens a 20-minute segment of her film in progress, Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft, and Design, at the Jane Addams Hull House Museum Residential Dining Hall (800 S. Halsted). Handmade Nation documents the latest wave of the DIY and crafting movement in the U.S. and analyzes the forces -- feminism, community politics, aesthetics -- behind it.
Afterward, there will be a panel discussion about how to diversify the DIY and craft movements across race and class lines with Levine, local artist Lindsay Obermeyer, Deborah Lader of the Chicago Printmakers Collaborative, and Shannon Stratton of ThreeWalls gallery. Cupcakes will be served ... mmm. For more information, click here or call 773-706-5036.
