Avatar.

Oh wait, there are actually some other movies screening this week! I'm giving three stars to The Young Victoria, this year's designated tony British drama for the holidays, and a very entertaining one at that (though hardly as good as last year's, Atonement). We've also got Critic's Choice boxes for Broken Embraces, the latest Pedro Almodovar-Penelope Cruz love fest; Cloud 9, or as I like to call it, Old People Fucking; and Sundance Shorts 2009, a collection of shorts that screened at this year's festival, including Don Hertzfeldt's I Am So Proud of You.

We've also got new reviews of Did You Hear About the Morgans?, Into Temptation, Showman: Albert Maysles Retrospective, and Lewis Klahr's Tales of the Forgotten Future.

And be sure to check out this week's cover story, in which movies contributor Cliff Doerksen holds forth on the storied cultural history of mince pie.
