Early Warnings Roundup

Minus the Bear
  • Minus the Bear
Among this week's worthwhile Early Warnings—the Cult at the Vic, Dimmu Borgir at House of Blues, Free Energy at Lincoln Hall, Lindstrom at the Empty Bottle, Minus the Bear at the Vic, DJ Shadow at Park West, Marnie Stern at the Empty Bottle—there are a few freshly announced shows I feel I should single out in a "shit will most likely get bonkers" sense.

The first will be with Baltimore electro-indie king Dan Deacon and the almighty Lightning Bolt at the Illinois Centennial Monument in Logan Square on October 10 at 3:30 PM. That's correct—outside in the middle of the day on a Sunday in the heart of lovely Logan Square. Will a live collaboration between Deacon and Lightning Bolt occur at some point? Will Lula patrons run for the hills or flock toward the strangeness? Will the monument burst into flames and crumble to the ground? Will Rey Colon be in attendance? Stay tuned.

I mentioned last week that New Year's Eve announcements were starting to come in, and right on cue the Congress Theater announced its New Year's debauchery. Like previous years' shows with Justice and Girl Talk (a short three-part documentary on last year's Girl Talk concert just hit the Web), it's all about converting the Congress into a massive indie club. To ring in 2011 the hall has booked electronic-music duo Pretty Lights for two dates, with Major Lazer opening on December 30 and Holy Fuck doing the honors on December 31.

And of course I'd be remiss not to mention that Lady Gaga visits the United Center with the Scissor Sisters on February 28. I'm sure there will be too much of everything the entire time, and you'll be stuck sitting next to a disgruntled dad whose 12-year-old daughter knows every single word to every single song.
