What could the teens have done to achieve more successful results?
- Instead of traveling in a big group, they could have broken up into smaller, more inconspicuous groups or pairs.
- They shouldn't have run into the stores, because running attracts attention. Causing a commotion, while exciting, rarely wins the hearts and minds of shopkeepers—who, it merits noting, usually don't endorse shoplifting for philosophical reasons.
- They probably should have assumed that the shopkeepers were going to call the police as soon as they detected shoplifting activity.
- They should not have assumed that they could outrun cop cars.
Kids, don't shoplift! It's a crime. But if you insist, then don't underestimate the importance of strategic planning.
