Escape Group: Performances and Responses
Escape Group is a collaborative residency between Anthony Romero, Jillian Soto, and a rotation of participating artists at Threewalls gallery. Over the past few months, Escape Group has been installing a “structural environment” that follows an Oblique Function building design, a method based on a series of diagonal planes. Escape Group has invited artists Sara Black and Cassandra Troyan and dancer Adam Rose to respond to the space through performance.
Fri 4/13, 6:30-8:30 PM, Threewalls gallery, 119 N. Peoria #2C.
Architecture & Design Film Festival panel discussions
In addition to the Architecture & Design Fest films that we rounded up in this week’s Reader, there are a number of interesting lectures happening around the city. Here are two that look particularly good: Architects as Filmmakers, moderated by executive director of the Graham Foundation Sarah Herda, and Architect as Diplomat: Embassies and What They Communicate, moderated by writer and radio host Victoria Lautman.
Architects as Filmmakers, Sat 4/14, 3:30-4:30 PM, and Architect as Diplomat: Embassies and What They Communicate, 5:30-6:30 PM, Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport
The Day in Its Color
Eric Sandweiss joins ShoP (South Side Hub of Production) to discuss his new book, The Day in Its Color. The Day in Its Color chronicles the work of businessman and amateur photographer Charles Cushman (1896-1972), whose 14,500 photographs capture his travels around the United States from 1938 to 1969. Cushman’s work was recently discovered and is the largest known archive of a single photographer. Sandweiss will discuss the book and Cushman’s work. The event is also a potluck.
Sun 4/15, 6-9 PM, South Side Hub of Production, 5638 S. Woodlawn.
