Fall farmers' markets and other food and drink events



The chefs of Ground Up Chicago host Harvest Feast Chicago, a cocktail hour, family-style dinner, and auction event. All proceeds benefit the Spence Farm Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about sustainable family farming. A VIP tasting and cocktail hour is followed by a four-course dinner prepared by chefs Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill, Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate, Paul Virant of Perennial Virant, and Daven Wardynski of 676 Restaurant & Bar. The Scrumptious Pantry's next installment of the educational Heirloom 2.0 series, Healthy with Household Herbs 101, features Lori Gorcyca from Merz Apothecary, who will teach students herbal remedies for ailments including the common cold, flu, and chicken pox. 6-8 PM, The Scrumptious Pantry, 3230 W. Meals on Wheels Chicago's 24th annual Celebrity Chef Ball, Nourish, starts with the Chef's Table, a dinner with cocktail pairings prepared by chef Jimmy Bannos Jr. from The Purple Pig and Charles Joly from The Aviary. It's followed by the Chef's Tasting Party, with tastings, cocktails, wine, and beer. Chef's Table: 6 PM, $350 (includes tasting party); Chef's Tasting Party 8:30 PM-12:30 AM, $150, Venue One, 1044 W. Fischman Liquors and Tavern has renamed its annual Oktoberfest celebration Kwaktoberfest to promote Kwak Beer, but the festivities remain the same: live music, free pretzels, and Oktoberfest-style beers. The Schnitzel King grills in the parking lot for those looking for more substantial sustenance than pretzels. 5 PM, Fischman Liquors and Tavern, 4780 N. Milwaukee, 21+.

At Bin 36's annual Harvest Festival, attendees can blend their own wine (which can be ordered by the case or half case). Wine for drinking while blending wine will be provided, along with snacks. 1-4 PM, Bin 36, 339 N. Dearborn, $36.

The Andersonville Farmers' Market returns for its final week of the season, with local, sustainable produce, honey, cheese, and wine. 3-7 PM, Berwyn between Clark and Ashland.
