With the passing of the Thanksgiving holiday comes the immediate shift to all-Christmas-all-the-time mode, best evidenced by the Black Friday (and weekend) hullabaloo and the act of every sadistic parent turning the radio dial to 93.9 FM, Chicago's renowned nonstop Christmas music nightmare.

And to combat the unbearable onslaught of holiday cheer from Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, and (ugh) Carrie Underwood, the passing of the Thanksgiving holiday also marks the one time a year I dig through my old seven-inches and spin the snarky Christmas-themed record from long-defunct Boston punk band the Showcase Showdown. Released on Tario Records in '95—the days when the band's direct phone number was provided on the record's sleeve—the seven-inch features the brilliantly titled "Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh!" and the timeless B side "Merry Christmas, I Fucked Your Snowman," today's 12 O'Clock Track and the best kind of accompaniment to a cold, wintry night huddled around the fireplace with loved ones.

Complete with a Johnny Rotten-like nasally snarl from front man Albert "Ping Pong" Genna and jangly, precisely sloppy guitar work from Tom Cloherty, the track is reminiscent of late-70s British Oi!, maybe heard best during the anthemic chorus that, as you might have guessed from the song's title, deals with violating a snowman and any semblance of holiday cheer associated with it.
