Awards season is upon us, and to help celebrate, the Gene Siskel Film Center has tasked some local film critics (including Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune and Ben Kenigsberg of Time Out Chicago) with discussing this year's crop of Oscar nominees, which will undoubtedly lead to admittedly pointless but no less heated debate.
Mykki Blanco, the cross-dressing rapper/actor/poet/performance artist/SAIC dropout, performs at Beauty Bar with a set that's sure to encompass all realms of his expertise. Reader favorites Supreme Cuts (DJ set) and DJ Teen Witch open.
Fresh off his recent Comedy Central special Shovel Fighter, former Chicago stand-up Matt Braugner (MADtv, The Late Show With David Letterman) performs at Up Comedy Club with support from local comic favorites Ever Mainard and Adam Burke.
