The Chicago Opera Theater opens its 2013 season with Philip Glass's rendition of The Fall of the House of Usher, the first production under new general director Andreas Mitisek.

Reggie's Rock Club hosts Portugal's Moonspell, a band Monica Kendrick praises for its "romantic, heavily goth-influenced, more-or-less-melodic metal." Marduk headlines; Moonspell, Inquisition, the Foreshadowing, and Death Wolf open.

Old-school country artists Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale play in support of their collaborative album Buddy & Jim, which Peter Margasak says features elements of the "60s soul that's long distinguished" their music. Max Gomez opens.
