For three years Berlin’s monthly CULT dance party has provided a haven for Chicago clubgoers with artsier-than-average sensibilities who don’t fit in at the EDM bottle-service palaces in the Loop, and in the process it’s established a local beachhead for a new generation of club kids who combine the eye-searing costuming and platform sneakers of the 90s with a distinctly Internet-flavored ethos. On a typical CULT night Berlin’s usual shirtless gay clientele rubs shoulders with SAIC refugees, Tumblr celebrities, aqua-haired seapunks, and a smattering of randoms off the street wearing pleasantly bewildered looks. During its run CULT has booked a who’s who of the dance-music avant-garde—Le1f, Brenmar, Maluca, Lil Internet, Pictureplane—but sadly tonight is its final installment. The lineup includes a DJ set by CULT mastermind Zain Curtis, aka Teen Witch, and a performance by LA fashion icon (and Grimes video star) Brooke Candy. Candy’s terrible rapping isn’t quite offset by her amazing sci-fi-stripper styling, but don’t let that keep you away from the last night of the best party in town. —Miles Raymer Brooke Candy headlines; Jesse St. John, Bodywork, Teen Witch Fan Club, and Matt-Matt open. Molly Soda, Clairey Pear, and Zombelle host.
