Cedric the Entertainer

If a comedian must start by looking funny, then Cedric Kyles, aka Cedric the Entertainer, was blessed--his cherubic face and diminutive frame are magnificent foils for his bottomless sarcasm and lithe dancing. He can pop and lock like a B-boy, exercising exquisite physical control; every limb and joint is in on the joke. His material is expert too: equally comfortable on C-SPAN and BET, he carefully navigates between social spheres in his stand-up routines, tailored to exploit his audiences' possible prejudices. At last year's White House Correspondents' Association dinner he targeted Condoleezza Rice and her corporate image: "There's the Connie, with the nice hair, who's very professional. Then there's the Leezza--she's the one with her hair wrapped up, on the phone with her girlfriend watching BET, talkin' 'bout 'Grrrl! Ain't that Usher fine?'" a Sat 1/20, 8 PM, Chicago Theatre, 175 N. State, 312-902-1500, $37.50-$85.50.
