Chernobyl Diaries

Rated R 88 minutes 2012

Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity) wrote the story for this horror flick, a ripoff of The Hills Have Eyes in which four young Americans en route from Kiev to Moscow sign up for an "extreme tourism" side trip to the irradiated and abandoned city of Pripyat. There are two possible readers for this review: those who are appalled by the idea of using the beyond-tragic 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster as fodder for cheap entertainment (we'll call you "human beings") and those who just want to know if this is scary (we'll call you "fanboys"). For the fanboys, I'll say this: Yeah, it's brutally scary. For the human beings, I'll say this: At least it isn't Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Bradley Parker directed.
