Chicago demonstrates it doesn't have to be ocean-adjacent to have a maritime heritage. The annual Chicago Maritime Festival, a celebration of the city's nautical tendencies, proves a lake will suffice. The festival kicks off with a day full of seminars and demonstrations—like "How to Be an Underwater Shipwreck Detective"—and concludes with a concert of maritime music. Sea chanteys can be lake chanteys, too.
