After dragging its heels for a decade, Walt Disney Pictures ventures into the brave new world of computer animation with this feature-length story about a chick that, irony of ironies, is way ahead of the curve. Animation fans will find this worth the wait—the marvelously detailed characters are soft and supple—though apparently there's no story-generating software that can tap into the dark recesses of a child's psyche as cannily as Uncle Walt once did. The title bird mortally embarrasses its father by mistakenly telling the whole town the sky is falling, but the tables are turned after spaceships land, dispensing giant, spidery creatures straight out of H.G. Wells. Mark Dindal directed; among the voice talent are Zach Braff, Garry Marshall, Don Knotts, Patrick Stewart, and Amy Sedaris. G, 77 min.
