Gossip Wolf is sad to report that Coffin Pricks are breaking up. The local four-piece, whose members include alumni of Circus Lupus, Red Eyed Legends, Cavity, Maximum Wage, and Daylight Robbery, were aces at scorching, catchy postpunk and played a barn burner last month at Metro with Titus Andronicus. According to guitarist Ryan Weinstein, the band has run its course—and front man Chris Thomson is moving to San Francisco. Coffin Pricks recently posted a few jams to Soundcloud and haven't ruled out releasing a posthumous single or two, but their Fri 12/14 DIY show with Broken Prayer and Pillow Talk is your last chance to see them live; for details e-mail email@example.com.
Last year Gossip Wolf reported that drummer Matt Walker, who over the past 20 years has played with Filter, Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey, and former local Dreamworks signees Cupcakes, had a release coming on local label Plustapes under the name Of 1000 Faces. Now he's bashing skins in Stuttgart, a band with former Cupcakes vocalist Preston Graves. They make their debut at Bottom Lounge on Wed 12/5 with Butterfly Child and Neil Jendon—as good a time as any to find out if they play Cupcakes' style of overdriven pop!
The third annual Gli.tc/h fest, a convocation of electronic and experimental artists interested in the failings and imperfections of technology, runs Thu 12/6 through Sun 12/9 at three DIY spaces in or near Wicker Park—and this Wolf recommends it! This year's fest includes a Friday-night bill at TriTriangle (formerly Enemy) with an audio/video round robin and an hour-long block where each set starts from zero, with no preparation—no presets, no strings on guitars, knobs zeroed out, et cetera—and has to end the same way within ten minutes. For more info, visit gli.tc/h (trust us, it's a real website).
