Eiren Caffall & Lawrence Peters Present: Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas, Tiny Cover Band, Christy LeMaster Recommended Soundboard

When: Fri., Dec. 7, 10 p.m. 2012

Russell and Lillian Hoban's 1971 children's book Emmet Otter's Jug-band Christmas was adapted for a Muppet TV special in 1977 and a Jim Henson Company stage musical in 2008. This small-scale version of the cute country-kitsch classic is brought to us by local musicians Lawrence Peters (Lawrence Peters Outfit, Golden Horse Ranch Band, Plastic Crimewave Sound) and Eiren Caffall (a singer and lap-steel player of rare beauty); rounding out their ensemble are Matt Gandurski (Northside Southpaws) and Ari Bolles (Weepin' Willows). Tiny Cover Band open the show, playing holiday songs on their giant collection of toy instruments, and Christy LeMaster will screen a film. This may seem like kids' entertainment, but it starts past most children's bedtimes—it's more about grown-ups having unself-conscious fun regressing. —Monica Kendrick
