It's a pity that Larry Cohen's talents as a director don't match his audacity as a screenwriter; this infinitely perverse 1977 thriller could have been a sleaze classic. But as it stands, it's too confused and clumsy to be much more than a novelty item. To give away the plot is to divest it of most of its interest, so let's just say the obvious twist in this story of a wave of mass murders in New York occurs in the first 20 minutes; from then on it gets curiouser and curiouser. With Sandy Dennis, Tony Lo Bianco, Deborah Raffin, Sylvia Sydney, and Andy Kaufman as a cop. Also known as Demon.
