Hyde Park Art Center See also Art & Museums. The center offers classes for all ages in four core areas: painting and drawing, ceramics, printmaking and textiles, and photography. Ten-week adult courses, with a weekly two-and-a-half-hour class, range from $250-$290; ten-week kids courses (90-minute classes) range from $160-$290. Summer arts camps for ages 4-15 begin June 14. Hyde Park School of Dance Ballet, jazz, modern dance, and yoga at $15 per class. Most classes are for ages 3-18 and are offered to both the casually interested and those with professional ambitions; 16-week sessions range from $190-$300 based on experience level and length of class. Upper-level students are offered preprofessional classes and training with the Tyego Dance Project (see Performing Arts for more). Adult classes (18+) include ballet and modern dance ($115 for an eight-class program) with a discounted rate ($90) for those with a university ID. 5650 S. Joan's Studio for the Performing Arts Private, one-on-one 18-week classes range from $594-$1,188 based on length of sessions (30, 45, or 60 minutes). Choose from trumpet, woodwinds, violin, viola, piano, cello, drums, world percussion, voice, or guitar for adults or kids. Little Black Pearl See also Art & Museums. The high school after-school program "Arts = Smarts" is free for students from "high risk" schools and children in custody of the Department of Children and Family Services; others pay $30 per week. The program features classes in painting and drawing, pottery, multimedia arts, and performance poetry. Three Pillars Health and Fitness Upstairs from the Valois Cafeteria (see Restaurants), Three Pillars offers a variety of classes including yoga, belly dancing, tai chi, kickboxing, mat and equipment-based Pilates, prenatal, hatha, vinyasa, and ashtanga yoga; and capoeira, a Brazilian martial arts/dance hybrid said to have been developed by slaves to practice fighting techniques under the guise of dance.
