Pure punishment, this rote action flick from Australia features a trio of big names—Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro—in a globe-trotting story about a vengeful Arab sheikh, a secret assassination squad, and righteous special ops warriors from the UK. According to the onscreen titles, it's based on a true story, but the source material was a 1991 novel, The Feather Men, whose author, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, has been flip-flopping on the book's authenticity for years. Expect the usual demolition derby, macho one-liners, and perfunctory romance (between Statham and Aussie babe Yvonne Strahovski). Three months from now this will be just another entry in some blog round-up of De Niro's worst movies, a competition that gets tougher all the time.
