Re: "A Not-So-Level Playing Field" by Ben Joravsky, September 7

Lincoln Elementary charges $600.00+ dollars for students to participate in the band. The money goes directly to paying for the band teacher. Daley has given the shaft to the kids of this city. He'll gladly take TIF money to divvy up with his cronies, but when it comes to the kids they don't have deep enough pockets for him. Lincoln Park real estate is inflated and the property taxes that should be used for the local school system end up in pork projects everywhere else. Instead of subsidizing developers why not try subsidizing the future . . . the kids.

Re: "Grief Made Graphic" by Jessica Hopper, September 7

This is an amazing piece--really moving. I picked up the Reader this past Friday and have reread the article at least once a day since then (it's now Tuesday). I can't help reading it over and over, it's that touching. It's a tragically beautiful story and Jessica Hopper really did it justice. Kudos to her.

Re: "Get Off the Assembly Line" by Bert Stabler, September 7

It is great to see people actually DOING something about a state of affairs which nearly everyone agrees is fuct on every level, as opposed to just complaining from the comfort of the sidelines (like most of us do--myself included).

It seems to me that this ["Pedagogical Factory"] could be the catalyst for change on a national level. Wouldn't it be great to have schools across the country looking to OUR CITY for guidance in these areas of ever-increasing importance?! Awesome.
