Morning Glory

Rated PG-13 102 minutes 2010

Canned from her job in New Jersey, a plucky TV producer (Rachel McAdams) lands a gig at the fourth-rated morning show in New York; as supervising producer, she fires the news anchor and coerces a grouchy journalism legend (Harrison Ford) into joining the lightweight talent roster. McAdams is typically effervescent here, but she can't rescue this weak comedy from a wooden Ford, whose stick-up-the-ass character is unimaginatively goosed by screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (27 Dresses, The Devil Wears Prada). Diane Keaton costars as Ford's partner on the broadcast, but not even the pairing of these eminently cranky old actors does much to enliven the movie's familiar TV-production gags. Roger Michell directed; with Jeff Goldblum as the heroine's boss and Patrick Wilson as the ill-defined love interest.
