Mouthbreathers, Rooftop Vigilatnes, More Gorgeous, Treeshakers Member Picks Recommended Soundboard

Kansas four-piece Mouthbreathers have evolved since debuting about two years ago with a fun, adrenalized hybrid of garage and hardcore: their new music is darker, denser, and moodier. On Mouthbreathers’ recent “Die Alone” b/w “Validation” seven-inch, released by Replay, the standout A side begins with a desolate, cavernous atmospheric passage that slowly builds and accelerates before shifting gears suddenly into raging punk—it’s a little reminiscent of Cloud Nothings’ latest, Attack on Memory. They’ve since posted a couple new tracks on Bandcamp that include a warm organ part (“Mindbreathers”) and a playful surf-rock solo (“Nowhere Else to Go”), but no matter what elements they add, they keep the lively kick of their earliest material intact. —Leor Galil Rooftop Vigilantes, More Gorgeous, and Treeshakers open.
