NED Talks Brief Run (Theater) Critic's Choice Free Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: July 24 2011

TED Talks is a series of presentations in which the world's leading innovators in technology, entertainment, and design (i.e., TED) get together to discuss Profound Solutions to Pressing Problems through Powerpoint. It only takes a few minutes of watching TED Talks videos to realize that this thing is ripe for parody. Seth Dodson and Kellen Alexander are already on it, with NED Talks. Asked to differentiate between TED and NED, Dodson said, "TED Talks believes that speaking intelligently about something can spread ideas and help the world grow. At NED Talks we believe that speaking intelligently about something means putting emphasis on certain words and taking lots. Of. Dramatic. Pauses." While the TED Talks explore topics like whether solar or nuclear power is the better resource to meet the world's energy demands, Alexander and Dodson will have a discussion titled "How Does This Damn Projector Work?," featuring Dodson's brother Zach and Mike Renaud of The Show 'n Tell Show. They plan to produce NED Talks on a quarterly basis because, Alexander says, "By saying it's quarterly we hope that our audience will think we are very smart-sounding." --Brian Costello
