Roc Marciano has been bouncing around the NYC rap scene since back when people actually paid attention to Busta Rhymes’s Flipmode Squad (of which he was a member). But then in 2010, when he seemed on track to become just another rap-history footnote, he dropped a belated solo debut that made Internet rap geeks with a taste for throwback 90s boom-bap very happy and gave his career its biggest boost since Busta’s cosign. Last year he turned up on Action Bronson’s “Pouches of Tuna” to drop one of the best guest features of 2012, derailing Bronson’s dense syllabic clusters to recite what sounded like a bunch of random phrases off the top of his head, delivered with an unhurried, pimpish insouciance. His second solo LP, last fall’s Reloaded (Decon), is like that verse expanded to album length. —Miles Raymer Julian Malone, Scheme & DJ Scend, DJ Timbuck2, DJ Rude One, DJ RTC, and VIP J open.
