Sabor Express

Dining Description:  As the name would suggest, Sabor Express is a spot for (as the menu puts it) "fast, casual, Brazilian cuisine." A large space, it's decorated with abundant fake flowers and brightly colored walls that are classy in combination with the stone pillars and huge wood-framed photos. And the food is a definite step up from your average quick-service place. Much of the menu focuses on little fried things stuffed with various fillings, including empanada-like pasteis, bulgur-crusted beef kibes, breaded risoles, and the teardrop-shaped chicken croquettes coxinhas. Also on offer are a couple sandwiches (steak, chicken breast, pork loin); several meat skewers; and sides like salads, rice and beans, salads, and fries, sweet potato or regular. Grilled skewers of garlic steak and Brazilian sausage, served with pineapple and rice and beans, were nicely cooked, with a good char flavor; also excellent was the passion-fruit torte, made in-house. On the weekends there's feijoada, a stew of black bean, smoked pork, and sausage, served with collard greens, farofa (toasted manioc flour), and rice.
