Sinbad: The Untold Tale Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Saturdays. Continues through April 16 2011

In Charles Way's update on the famous suite of tales from One Thousand and One Arabian Nights, our hero is a porter with the same name as the legendary seafarer. Joined by the original Sinbad's sheltered daughter, Ittifaq, he goes on a quest to defeat a sorceress who's unleashed a deadly fog on Baghdad. Slow patches allow the magic carpet to accumulate a few narrative dust bunnies, but director Amanda Delheimer makes inventive use of Chelsea Warren's spare, moveable set. Sprightly performances from Edgar Sanchez as the plucky porter, Dana Dajani as defiant Ittifaq, and Esteban Cruz as a sassy genie (can there be any other kind?) create a mostly enjoyable ramble. --Kerry Reid
