Hypocrisy on an epic scale, this computer-animated feature turns the Dr. Seuss classic about corporate greed into a multimillion-dollar toy commercial. The movie pays lip service to the book's environmentalist message, but its real agenda is creating another Shrek-style merchandising juggernaut. Instead of Seuss's sweet nonsense we get smug pop-culture references and feeble one-liners; the songs, which sound like extended radio jingles, make the movie even more of a slog. Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) directed; with the voices of Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, and Zac Efron.
