The latest addition to the growing field of Chicago outdoor fests devoted to electronic dance music, the Wavefront Music Festival takes place on Montrose Beach Sat 6/30 and Sun 7/1 and features dozens of artists on four stages. On Saturday the music runs from 11 AM until 10 PM and includes sets by bloghouse faves Boys Noize and MSTRKRFT, techno veteran Bad Boy Bill, and avant-popster Matthew Dear. Sunday's bill likewise kicks off at 11 AM and wraps up at 10 PM and features progressive house legend Sasha, A-Trak and Armand Van Helden's Duck Sauce, and early DJ sets by former LCD Soundsystem members (and disco obsessives) James Murphy and Pat Mahoney, among others. A self-explanatory Local Stage runs both days and includes sets by Greg Corner (of Kill Hannah and Dark Wave Disco), Zebo, and raunch purveyors Porn and Chicken. Two-day general-admission passes are $109.99 (or $59.99 per day) and available to all ages; two-day VIP passes are $239.99 (or $149.99 per day) and 21+. (Special VIP packages range in price all the way up to $10,000.) A free shuttle runs between the festival and the Wilson stop on the Red Line from 9 PM till 11 PM. Recording equipment, glow sticks, laser pointers, event flyers, and outside food or drink are prohibited; backpacks, blankets, and handheld cameras are fine. Reentry is allowed at the discretion of the security staff, and on-site lockers are available for rental. A Friday-night preparty (also on Montrose Beach) starts at 5 PM and runs till 10 PM, with sets by Serge Devant, Lee Curtiss, and Benoit & Sergio; it's $40, or free to anyone with a two-day pass. Official afterparties take place both nights at a number of venues—Enclave, Spybar, Smart Bar—and performers include A-Trak, Boys Noize, and Bad Boy Bill.
