Who Needs Enemies

What a shame that Mr. [Tony] Adler almost learned to write, and that the price of theatrical attention in Chicago is tied, in this case ("Fringe Dwellers," November 18), to his Olympian provincialism.

My sympathy to Beau O'Reilly and company after watching Adler wade around in their private lives--and make us all the benefactors of his feeble understanding.

Condescending ("Beau's been poor and artistic all his life") when he wasn't precious ("there's a sunset glow to my iced tea"), Adler's pomposities set a new standard. With a "friend" like this--the Fringe should be demanding to be left alone.
