Disease makes us nervous. But in this one-woman show of barely 90 minutes writer-performer Mierka Girten describes her confrontation with, surrender to, and ultimate triumph over an elusive and incurable malady, multiple sclerosis. With or Without Wings, written with Michael Thomas and directed by Brian Fagan, also introduces us to an array of memorable people vividly re-created by Girten, whose physical agility and vocal dexterity do more to dispel our fear of this disorder's threat than any number of consoling pieties. Premiered in June 2001, the show has returned for a limited run. Storefront Theater, Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, 66 E. Randolph, 312-742-8497. Through November 22: Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 PM; Sundays, 4 PM. $15.
