American sunset, continued

Jim Goodnight, CEO of software giant SAS, tells silicon.com that "in the U.S. we are not producing enough skills in science and maths and yet we're not allowed to bring in more than 65,000 people each year who have those skills."

"You want to talk about some of the stupid things Bush has done?" he added. "Why restrict the best and the brightest people from coming into your country?"

Of course, Goodnight’s an interested party: he wants to be able to hire good people cheap. But if he can’t hire Indian and Chinese engineers over here, he’ll hire them over there. (And maybe one of them will explain to him the bitter irony in that Vietnam-era phrase.)
