It's one thing to make automated calls to praise your candidate, or to damn the other candidate (including push polls) -- they're highly annoying and I'd be happy if they were outlawed, but they're part of the political game.
It is quite something else to make rapidly repeated robocalls designed to sound as if they came from the other candidate, in order to make voters disgusted with said candidate -- that's attempted voter suppression, period.
Comments here suggest that even some who read political blogs don't get the distinction.
So far the evidence seems to be that the voter-suppression robocalls are a tactic Republicans are using in numerous congressional races. But such calls are despicable regardless of who's doing them, and a sign of political and intellectual bankruptcy.
