This interesting flyer was hanging in the window of the ridiculously popular Noon-O-Kabab earlier this week. Noon-O-Kabab was an early and oft-cited example of the Check, Please! effect, when an otherwise decent little restaurant gets favorably reviewed on the WTTW show and is subsequently mobbed beyond its capabilities. It not only survived but expanded and remodeled. Now it seemed owner Javad Naghavi was looking to hire a $26,000 chef with two years' experience in "Persian, Iranian, or Middle Eastern Cuisine." Not quite. Naghavi already has a guy--he's bringing him over from France. But he's required by the Feds (specifically the Office of Foreign Labor Certification) to post the notice for ten days.
Naghavi says he isn't changing anything on the menu, but in about two months he'll open a second kitchen headed by the new guy to handle take-out, delivery, and catering.
