The woman who wrote the book on the woman who wrote the book on food is this weekend's Chicago Foodways Roundtable speaker. Local author Joan Reardon, who wrote Poet of the Appetites, the biography of M.F.K. Fisher, speaks on Fisher at Kendall College on Saturday, May 12, at 10 AM. Not only did Reardon spend almost 15 years working on the Fisher biography, she also wrote the introduction to the 50th anniversary edition of Fisher's The Art of Eating, authored M.F.K. Fisher, Julia Child, and Alice Waters: Celebrating the Pleasures of the Table, and most recently collected materials and wrote the introduction for a book of unpublished short Fisher pieces, A Stew or a Story. The always soignee Reardon, a former Kendall board member, also wrote an authoritative cookbook about bivalves entitled Oysters: A Culinary Celebration.
According to the Foodways site, reservations are necessary: "Phone 847-432-8255, then leave your name, telephone number and the number of people in your party or e-mail email@example.com."
