Empty Bottle and the Wire have announced the lineup for this year's Adventures in Modern Music fest (scroll down to September 26-30). Is it just me or does it seem a little lightweight compared to some previous years? Everyone's all abuzz about the chance to see Qui, Pere Ubu, Holy Fuck, Damon & Naomi, Michio Kurihara, Glenn Jones and Jack Rose, Deerhunter, and Boris so close together (and rightly so), but it's really no more gripping than a standard good week at the Bottle, is it? Honestly, I would expect the Wire to pull out all the stops for its 25th anniversary. At least a few "Holy shit, I thought that crazy mofo was dead!" types making a dramatic return. And no, David Yow doesn't count.
(Full disclosure: I love the Wire and wrote for it a few times years ago. Was even on the masthead for a while, probably because they were desperate for female names.)
