Sidney Davidson, a professor emeritus at the U of C's Graduate School of Business who's "sometimes called the nation's number one accountant," died Saturday at the age of 88. Accounting has a rep for being the most boring thing a smart person can do--think about how many times you've heard someone described as "looking like an accountant"--but one of the lessons of the Enron scandal is that it's actually pretty important.

Davidson's 1979 Saxe Lecture in Accounting, "The inflation that won't go away and how to account for it," is available here.
