Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro celebrates its second anniversary tonight with a Whisky Dinner at 7 PM. Five whiskies -- including the Glenkinchie 10-year-old, Cragganmore 12-year-old, and Lagavulin 16-year-old single-malt scotches -- will accompany a four-course meal. $50.
Pour Your Heart Out for Commons, an annual wine tasting and auction to benefit Chicago Commons, is Friday from 6-9 PM at the Chicago Yacht Club. The auction's theme is "Wines to Die For"; there'll also be sushi and a champagne and chocolate bar. VIP guests can also attend master sommelier Serafin Alvarado's "Top Shelf Burgundies" tasting. $60 for attendees 21-34 years old, $100 for 35 and up, and $150 VIP.
Hart Davis Hart Wine Co. also has a wine auction Friday, and it's free to attend. From 9 AM to 5 PM, collections that include Chateau Petrus, other first-growth Bordeaux, and rare Barolos and Barbarescos will be on the block at Tru. Attendees of the Edward Roberts International Live Fine Wine Auction and Tasting can taste Petrus and Mouton-Rothschild wines plus a few single-malt scotches along with their breakfast buffet. The 11 AM tasting at Columbia Yacht Club will be followed by the auction, from 12:30-4:30 PM, where participants may witness the sale of the most expensive bottle of wine ever auctioned off: a rare imperial (equivalent to eight regular bottles) of 1961 Chateau Petrus, expected to go for $150,000. $50 for wine tasting, free for auction and breakfast buffet.
The International House of Wine and Cheese hosts an Opus One wine dinner at Le Titi de Paris on Sunday. Celebrating the release of the Opus One 2004 vintage, the five-course dinner features roasted pumpkin with shrimp and lobster, pinot noir braised short ribs, and braised lamb shank. A pre-dinner wine tasting of 20 wines, including Joseph Phelps Insignia and Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages, begins at 4 PM; dinner is at 5:15 PM. $90 plus tax and tip.
"Beer and Book" at Brasserie Jo, Tuesday at 6:30, showcases recipes from The Best of American Beer and Food: Pairing & Cooking with Craft Beer, by local author Lucy Saunders. Saunders will be on hand to discuss the hand-crafted beers each of the five courses will be paired with. $65.
