Artist Maya Lin, who made her bones as the prodigious designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial--one of the truly great pieces of American public art, which she designed as a 20-year-old, modeling it out of mashed potatoes in a Yale cafeteria--is in town for the Chicago Humanities Festival, participating in a discussion with installation artist Roni Horn and CHF director Lawrence Weschler. She's also got a work up at David Weinberg, as part of a CHF-affiliated show (opening Friday), which, coincidentally, is a map.

A detail of Altered Atlas, a work by Maya Lin, part of "Visions of Concern," opening Fri 10/26, 5-8 PM, at David Weinberg, 300 W. Superior #203, 312-529-5090.
