The nerve agent is so much with the community that it has nearly lost its ghastliness. A local calendar features both the artwork of schoolchildren and tips for emergency preparedness; next month, then, the drawings of Kyle and Amber and Brittney will appear below the explanation that VX “affects the nervous system by interfering with the signals sent from the brain to the vital organs and other body parts.”

The New York Times has a great article on the Newport Chemical Depot of Newport, Indiana, just across the border from Danville, IL, which is set to close when its employees are done disposing of the 1,200 tons left over from the 4,500 tons ("enough, if judiciously applied, to kill nearly everyone on the planet") of VX gas the plant made between 1961 and 1969. It appears it's not too late to get a temp job on the project, however. Also notable: the Newport Antique Auto Hill Climb.
