This week in Howard Sandroff

Howard Sandroff, a new-music composer, faculty member at the U. of C. and Columbia College, and one-man history of electronic music, speaks with Andrew Patner tonight at 10 PM on WFMT; later this week and next, five of his pieces will be featured as part of two free concerts.  Gearwire has a number of interviews with Sandroff, covering everything from his early days of composing on punch-cards to deep-in-the-weeds looks at Cycling '74 Max to composing for signal processing. The last bit is particularly interesting: Sandroff has run into problems trying to perform works written for obsolete software, and he describes his method of writing for electronic musicians in such a way that his work can be played with different (or yet-to-be-invented) technology.
