The Garfield Park Conservatory
celebrates its 100th birthday from noon to 3 PM this Sunday, April 13, with a live blues band, kids' programs, special prizes, and free food--including hot dogs, popcorn, cake, and ice cream. There'll also be storytelling and photo ops with staff dressed as horticulturalists from the early 1900s. The party includes a cake-cutting event at 2 PM and wraps up with a ceremonial tree planting at 3 PM. Also that day: Treekeeper Jim DeHorn of Openlands
will lead two 45-minute "Tree ID Walks" through Garfield Park, starting at 11:30 AM and 1 PM. And from 12:15 PM the conservatory will be giving away 100 dogwood tree saplings.
