Chicago: The best city in the U.S., at least this year, according to the breathless biz mag Fast Company. Why Chicago? I dunno, I couldn't find the article that explained it. The piece by Alex Kotlowitz talks about about the Hideout and green roofs and other stuff, which mentions that our economy is growing faster than NYC's or LA's. Also, Barack lives here!
I'm sure that all the wonderful trappings will follow, as they did for Des Moines, the hippest city in the U.S., 2003: "in Des Moines, companies have only increased their family-friendly perks, making life in Iowa's capital city today feel as hip -- and as privileged -- as in Silicon Valley circa 1999."
