Schaumburg's Laugh Out Loud Theater, formerly the Chicago Comedy Company, officially opens today. The comedy venue has actually been in business since January, when its name changed and its liquor license came through. But the space is only now ready for its "Grand Opening Celebration," which includes a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 PM followed by improv performances.

Over these last several months the theater has undergone significant remodeling, including upgrades to the stage and the construction of a kitchen and bar. Its new owner, Lillian Frances, is a Columbia College prof with extensive experience as a performer and director at Second City and iO, among other theaters.

House shows feature short-form improv, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM (family-friendly) and 9:30 PM (adult-oriented). The cast includes more than 20 regulars--like talented comedians Jessica Joy and Freddie Sulit (pictured)--many of them veterans of Second City, iO, Annoyance Theatre, ComedySportz, and other Chicago companies. The theater also hosts the occasional sketch show--Hopelessly Devoted is currently running--and offers improv classes for adults and camps for teens and kids.

If you're planning a trip to the theater don't forget Schaumburg's other comedy venue, The Improv, one of the best stand-up clubs in the midwest.
