Tip of the day goes to my friend Ben for pretty much demanding that I check out the MySpace of a Swedish black-metal band called Avsky. Really the "black metal" tag only covers part of what they're doing, mostly the soul-burning-in-a-lake-of-fire vocal stylings. Otherwise they sound almost like a crust-punk band, reining in the tempos and including a surprising amount of the kind of riffy grooves that crust punk lifted from Motorhead. (On "Vultures" they do vintage metal nearly unfiltered.)
And, of course, like any good metal band, they have T-shirts that fill me with dorked-out consumer lust. Well played, Avsky.
