The Lyric Opera has openings in its 2008-9 season for everything from supernumeraries to fill out scenes to small speaking roles. At the very least you can share the stage with stars. At most--well, maybe somebody big gets laryngitis and the director tells you to go on. The complete Lyric notice:

Lyric Opera of Chicago seeks actors and supernumeraries for 2008-09 season to portray acrobats, clowns, knights, party guests, priestesses, priests, sailors, servants, soldiers and more! All auditions take place at the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Lyric Opera of Chicago’s 2008-09 season boasts a galaxy of international opera stars including Nicole Cabell, Lisa Daltirus, Mark Delavan, Natalie Dessay, Morenike Fadayomi, Vladimir Galouzine, Nathan Gunn, Gordon Hawkins, Jonas Kaufmann, Frank Lopardo, Lester Lynch, Matthew Polenzani, Patricia Racette, Deborah Voigt, Erin Wall, Guang Yang, and Dolora Zajick. Actors and supernumeraries will work with these stars and with renowned stage directors José María Condemi, Paul Curran, Herbert Kellner, Vincent Liotta, David McVicar, Elijah Moshinsky, Chas Rader-Shieber, Francesca Zambello.

Massenet’s MANON
Director: David McVicar
Wed. Sept. 3, 6 pm: two male actors to play Servants
Actors cast in Manon will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Sept. 15 through Oct. 31, 2008.
Fri., Sept. 5, 6 pm: four child supers--two 9-year-old boys to play pages and two 14-year-old girls to play aristocrats.
Boy supers cast in Manon must be available Sept. 6 through Oct. 31, 2008.
Girl supers cast in Manon must be available Sept. 16 through Oct. 31, 2008.

Bizet's THE PEARL FISHERS
Director: Herbert Kellner
Mon., Sept. 8, 6 pm: six male and six female supers to play priests and priestesses
Supers cast in The Pearl Fishers must be available Sept. 12 through Nov. 4, 2008.

Berg's LULU
Director: Paul Curran
Mon., Aug. 4, 5 pm: three male actors to play stagehands/policemen/party guests;
three female actors to play backstage theater staff/party guests
Actors cast in Lulu will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Sept. 29 through Nov. 30, 2008.

Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS
Director: Francesca Zambello
Wed., Aug. 20, 6 pm: three white solo bit (speaking) actors to play a detective, a coroner, and a policeman.
Actors cast in Porgy and Bess will be hired on an AGMA Principal/solo bit weekly contract and must be available Oct. 13 through Dec. 19, 2008.
Tue., Oct. 14, 6 pm:16 Black or African-American adult supers--ten men and six women to plat residents of Catfish Row ­                   
12 Black or African-American child supers--six boys and six girls to play residents of Catfish Row.
Supers cast in Porgy and Bess must be available Oct. 15 through Dec. 19, 2008.

Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY
Director: Vincent Liotta
Sat., Nov. 22, 3 pm: six small male or female actors to play Ko-Ken.
Actors cast as Ko-Ken in Madama Butterfly will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Nov. 24 through Dec. 20, 2008 and Jan. 5 through 29, 2009.
Mon., Nov. 24, 6 pm: 10 adult supers--six men and four women to play servants, a sailor, and Butterfly's family.
Supers cast in Madama Butterfly must be available Nov. 24 through Dec 20, 2008 and Jan. 5 through 29, 2009.
Tue., Nov. 25, 5 pm: One child actor to play Trouble, Butterfly's three-year-old son.
Actor cast as Trouble in Madama Butterfly will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Dec. 2 through 20, 2008, and Jan. 5 through 29, 2009.

Wagner's TRISTAN UND ISOLDE

Mon.,  Jan. 5, 6 pm: six male actors to play knights and sailors. Stage combat experience required.
Actors cast in Tristan und Isolde will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Jan. 6 through Feb. 28, 2009.

Mascagni's CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and Leoncavallo's PAGLIACCI
Director: Elijah Moshinsky
Thurs. Jan 15, 4 pm: nine actors--seven men to play clowns and two women to play villagers.
Actors cast in Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Jan. 19 through Mar. 27, 2009.
Thurs., Jan 15, 5 pm: 11 adult supers--nine men to play priests and upper-class donors, two women to play villagers.                   
15 child supers--nine boys to play altar boys, upper class boys, and peasants; six girls to play upper class girls, peasants, and teen brides.
Supers cast in Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci must be available Jan. 17 through Mar. 27, 2009.

Mozart's THE ABDUCTION FROM THE SERAGLIO

Actor cast as Pasha Selim in Abduction will be hired on an AGMA Principal/feature weekly contract and must be available Feb. 2 through Mar. 28, 2009.
Mon., Aug. 11, 5 pm: one actor to play older Pasha Selim
Actor cast as the older Pasha in Abduction will be hired on an AGMA Actor weekly contract and must be available Feb 9. through Mar. 28, 2009.
Mon., Aug. 11, 6 pm: 26 supers--eight men to play Janissaries, six men to play Osmin Guards, 12 women to play harem girls (three of the 12 also play Turkish  women)
Supers cast in Abduction must be available Feb. 3 through Mar. 28, 2009.    

• Actors must become members of AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists)
• Actors on an AGMA Actor weekly contract are paid a weekly salary of $500.00.
• Adult supernumeraries ("extras") are unpaid volunteers and will receive $15.00 per each rehearsal and performance call to offset transportation expense.
• Child supernumeraries are also unpaid volunteers and may apply for a grant to offset transportation expenses incurred for rehearsal and performance calls (maximum grant amount per production to be determined once actual time commitment is clearly defined, but in no case more than $250.00).
• Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory.
