UPDATE: All the slots for this event have been filled.

Vosges Haut-Chocolat still has a few spaces available at tomorrow night's tasting pairing its new Zion Collection truffles with artisanal rums. The event is free and includes five truffles with pairings, tasting notes, gift bags, small bites from Ja' Grill, and an open bar. When Susannah J. Felts profiled Vosges founder Katrina Markoff for the Reader back in 2005, Markoff told her that Bob Marley was the inspiration for her luxury chocolate company: "The way he used music to pass through his message--this peaceful-street-warrior, hit-'em-with-music concept? I'm hittin' 'em with chocolate concept." Appropriately enough, the seasonal Zion Collection, available only through late fall or early winter while supplies last, is inspired by Jamaican flavors and Rastafarian themes. The five truffles:

  • Lion--allspice, calabaza, dark chocolate, pumpkinseed (pictured here)
  • Kaya--hemp seed nut, milk chocolate
  • I-tal--Blue Mountain coffee, fresh coconut, dark chocolate
  • Rasta--Jamaican sorrel, ginger, nutmeg, mango, white chocolate, hibiscus flower
  • Zion--tamarind, Scotch bonnet chiles, dark chocolate, cocoa nibs

The Rum + Chocolate Zion Collection Tasting is Thursday, October 23, from 7:30 PM-9:30 at the Lincoln Park location of Vosges Haut-Chocolat, 951 W. Armitage. To make a reservation, call 773-296-9866 or e-mail armitage@vosgeschocolate.com, including your name, number, and the number of spaces requested.
