Wicked pulls in more green

There was no evidence of recession at the Chicago box office for Wicked last week: the long-running Broadway-in-Chicago production at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre racked up the highest weekly gross in Chicago theater history, bringing in $1,764,428. That's a cool $346,000 more than the previous high, set by the same production in December, 2007. The show's been an economic engine for the loop theater disctrict, drawing an audience of 2.9 million since it opened in June, 2005.  It's set to close January 25.
