Will Schutz, a veteran Chicago actor with credits at City Lit, the Side Project, and many other fringe stalwarts, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer--and, like so many freelance artists, doesn't have health insurance. Friends are getting together with several efforts to raise money for his treatment.
Hydrate, 3458 N. Halsted, hosts a benefit Friday, January 23, 9-11 PM. It's officially pay-what-you-can for an open bar, appetizers, and live entertainment, but the suggested donation is $20.
Then, on Saturday, January 31, 7:30 PM, there's a performance of The Game Show Show and Stuff, with half of the proceeds going to Schutz. It's at the Lakeshore Theater, 3175 N. Broadway, and tickets are $15-$20 in advance, $20-$25 at the door. Call 773-472-3492.
Finally, if you want to skip the socializing and just make a donation, go to willschutzpancan.chipin.com.
